About
Bon
The
owner is no stranger to the restaurant business or serving
great food. It is a family trait that started with her grandfather,
Bill Minor, who opened the first fast food type business
in Chapel Hill called Bill’s BBQ. As a child, Bon
folded chicken boxes and soaked everything her grandfather
did in. Eventually, her mother, Mama Dip, continued the
tradition and started her own restaurant. After 18 years
as a housemother at the Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity at UNC-Chapel
Hill, Bon felt that she was ready to become a staple in
her own right!
In October 1999 with her daughter by her side, she opened
Bon’s BBQ in Carrboro Plaza. For six years, she ran
a successful business, but felt that she could not grow
in that location. Now several months after closing her original
location, she has reopened in University Square on Franklin
Street. She is a down home person that cooks great down
home meals!

Wondering
why she is called Bon?
Bon’s
birth name is Julia Yvonne Council. Her parents called her
Von coming up, but her younger siblings called her Bon and
it stuck!
And
always remember:
No Bon’s About It, It’s In The Sauce!
